The assignment was simple, choose a painting that inspires you, design an entire look and then create it. I found the collage below on Pinterest one day and I loved the mix of mediums, thinking that it would add something interesting to fashion. As someone whose goal is for garments to NOT look like I made them, more like something that could only be bought in a boutique, this was a small experiment using unconventional materials. I used off-white cotton which I then painted in a style to replicate my inspiration. I didn't want everything to be so literal though. So by trying to think out of the box, I thought the triangles would be a nice way to frame the face. Not just a collar or a necklace, but perhaps a headpiece that rests on the shoulders --- almost like a geometrical hood. I cut cotton strips and wove them across the back opening of the dress for support and to reflect the grid-like hash marks. Then newspaper and brown paper were collaged and added as a decorative waist panel to tie it all together.

This project was a lot of fun and one of my first over my 4 years at SCAD.
